One of the most recently constructed Corps of Engineers parks on the lake, Kimball Bend is located at the western end of the HWY 174 bridge over the Brazos. Small open campground along the shore, best suited to small trailers and campers. Old public boat ramp south of the bridge has been re-furbed and connected to the park via road. Park is useful as a take-out point for canoe trips south from Brazos Point (FM 1118).
What a waste of a historical site! We were driving through the area and see a historical marker at the Brazos and pulled in to read it. The man at the gate seemed dumbfounded and annoyed that we were there. He never told me the cost for admission after I asked, just that it was for boating and overnight guest. It would be great for the public to learn about one of Texas early towns on the Chisholm Trail.
Spent three days with my baby brother my brother in law and nephew enjoyed lot's of quiet nights fishing and sleeping through the heat of the day. I am glad that it is reopened and hopefully will get to do some late night fishing again soon? If people don't help preserve what wildlife habitats we have left now what's going to be here for future generations? Instead of complaining about the conditions the park is in walk around the area and pick up trash when you first get there and again before you leave? If everyone would teach their children this then pretty soon no trash would ever be left behind
Nice, cozy and quiet. Stayed 8 nights and never had any reason to complain. The park pretty much fills up on the weekends. Still everyone was respectful of the other campers. We had a night or two all to ourselves which was heavenly to sit out by the water in the evenings. Glenda & Gerald that work in the office at the gate are very nice and very pleasant to deal with. Glenda even stayed a few minutes past closing so our friends could get in and get set up. Still lots of trees and debris from the flooding which has ruined the waterline from being a "beach" area and makes it less enjoyable for little ones to swim, but we made due. There are many many spiders that are busy busy making webs in and on everything. We purchased ant killer and treated several ant beds that we had in our camping spot. Only other minor issue is after 10pm entrance is locked so if you need to leave you can but if/when you return there's no getting your vehicle back in until morning and its a nice little walk back to the camping spots. A gate code or something like that would be very much to the parks advantage.
A beautiful place to camp and the people running the gate are very nice and helpful. We all had a great time.
